Vishvakarman [毘首羯磨天] (; Bishukatsuma-ten): A god said to live in the Heaven of the Thirty-three Gods on the summit of Mount Sumeru and who serves Shakra. According to The Treatise on the Great Perfection of Wisdom, when Shakyamuni was practicing the pāramitā of almsgiving as King Shibi in a past existence, the god Shakra assumed the form of a hawk, and Vishvakarman, that of a dove, to test the king’s sincerity. Vishvakarman is regarded as the god of sculpture and architecture and the patron of artisans. See also Shibi.
