Revelation of the Profound Secrets Sutra [解深密経] ( Samdhinirmochana-sūtra; Chin Chieh-shen-mi-ching; Gejimmitsu-kyō): Abbreviated as the Profound Secrets Sutra. A five-volume sutra translated into Chinese by Hsüan-tsang in 647. This sutra is the principal text of the Dharma Characteristics (Chin Fa-hsiang; Hossō) school. It is written in question-and-answer format and deals with such topics as the nature of the dharmas (phenomena), Consciousness-Only doctrine, and the ālaya-consciousness. There are three Chinese translations in addition to the one by Hsüan-tsang: the five-volume version translated by Bodhiruchi in the early sixth century, and two abridged versions, the two-volume translation by Gunabhadra in the mid-fifth century and the one-volume translation by Paramārtha in the latter part of the sixth century.
