Harivarman [訶梨跋摩] (n.d.) (; Karibatsuma): An Indian monk in the third or fourth century, regarded as the founder of the Establishment of Truth (Ch’eng-shih) school in China. He was born to a Brahman family and originally studied the doctrines of the Sāmkhya school, one of the six main schools of Brahmanism. Later he studied under Kumāralāta, the founder of the Sautrāntika school, one of the eighteen schools of Hinayana Buddhism. He also studied the Mahayana teachings and wrote The Treatise on the Establishment of Truth, which was later translated into Chinese by Kumārajīva in the early fifth century and became the basis of the Establishment of Truth school in China.
