Nyohō [如宝] (d. 814 or 815) (; Chin Ju-pao): A priest who brought the scriptures of the Precepts (Chin Lü; Ritsu) school from China to Japan. He arrived at Japan’s capital, Nara, in 754, accompanying his teacher, Chien-chen, who became known as Ganjin in Japan. Nyohō lived at Yakushi-ji temple in Shimotsuke Province and also at Tōshōdai-ji temple in Nara. Renowned as a lecturer and practitioner of the precepts, he won respect from Emperor Kammu and conferred the precepts upon him, his consort, and his crown prince.
