Niida Shirō Nobutsuna [新田四郎信綱] (n.d.): A follower of Nichiren who lived in Hatake Village of Nitta District of Izu Province, Japan. He was an elder brother of Nichimoku (1260–1333), who succeeded Nikkō, Nichiren’s designated successor. Niida’s mother was an elder sister of Nanjō Tokimitsu, the steward of Ueno and one of the leading followers of Nichiren. He converted to Nichiren’s teachings through this relationship with the Nanjō family and, with Nanjō Tokimitsu and others, endeavored to propagate Nichiren’s teachings.
