Misawa Kojirō [三沢小次郎] (n.d.): A lay follower of Nichiren. He was the lord of Misawa in Fuji District of Suruga Province, Japan. Two letters to him from Nichiren are extant. One was written in 1278 and suggests that he kept his distance from Nichiren for fear of antagonizing and arousing the suspicions of the Kamakura shogunate. Nichiren understood his position, however, and encouraged him to continue to exercise discretion, promising never to abandon him.
