Matsubagayatsu [松葉ケ谷]: The place of Nichiren’s residence in Kamakura, Japan. Nichiren had a dwelling there that served as the center of his religious activities in Kamakura. He is thought to have lived there for most of the period from 1253, shortly after he publicly declared his teaching, until 1271, the year of the Tatsunokuchi Persecution and his subsequent exile to Sado Island. This period was punctuated by his nearly two-year exile to the province of Izu, and his time spent in what is now Chiba Prefecture spreading his teachings.
