Myōjō Pond [明星が池] ( Myōjō-ga-ike): A pond said to have been located at Seichō-ji temple in Awa Province, Japan, where Nichiren (1222–1282) entered the priesthood. The Transmission of Seven Teachings on the Gohonzon, a document attributed to Nichiren and Nikkō, says that, when Nichiren was praying to Bodhisattva Space Treasury to understand what form the object of devotion in the Latter Day of the Law should take, a venerable priest appeared and told him to look into Myōjō Pond. When he did so, he saw his image reflected on the water as the mandala he later inscribed called the Gohonzon.
