general transfer [総付嘱] ( sō-fuzoku): Also, general transfer of the Lotus Sutra or general transmission. The transfer of the Lotus Sutra by Shakyamuni Buddha to all the assembled bodhisattvas as described in the “Entrustment” (twenty-second) chapter of the sutra. This is used in contrast to the specific transfer described in the preceding chapter, “Supernatural Powers,” in which the sutra is entrusted specifically to Bodhisattva Superior Practices and the other Bodhisattvas of the Earth.
