In Esoteric Buddhism, Great Commander is revered as a deity who protects the nation by dispelling disasters and troubles. He is depicted as an angry figure surrounded by flames and bearing weapons such as a sword. In Japan, a ceremony of Esoteric Buddhism called the ceremony of Great Commander was performed to protect the nation.
