Kātyāyanīputra [迦多衍尼子] (n.d.) (; Kataennishi): A monk of the Sarvāstivāda school in India around the second century b.c.e. Born to a Brahman family, he later converted to Buddhism. A great scholar, he wrote The Treatise on the Source of Wisdom, a principal doctrinal text of the school, and contributed greatly to the systematization of the school’s doctrine. He is often regarded as the founder of the Sarvāstivāda school.
