Kongōbu-ji [金剛峯寺]: The head temple of the True Word (Shingon) school, located on Mount Kōya in Wakayama Prefecture, Japan. Its full name is Kōya-san Kongōbu-ji. In 816 Kōbō, the school’s founder, requested and was granted Mount Kōya by the imperial court. Thereafter he set about building the temple structures, which were completed after his death, late in the ninth century.
