Chih-che [智者] (PY Zhizhe; Chisha): “Person of wisdom.” An honorific title given in 591 to the Great Teacher T’ien-t’ai by Prince Kuang of the Sui dynasty in China (who later became Yang-ti, the second emperor of that dynasty). T’ien-t’ai was also called the Great Teacher and Wise One T’ien-t’ai. See also T’ien-t’ai.
