Cave of the Seven Leaves [七葉窟] ( Saptaparna-guhā; Shichiyō-kutsu): The site where the First Buddhist Council for the compilation of Shakyamuni Buddha’s teachings was held shortly after his death with the support of Ajātashatru, the king of Magadha in India. According to Buddhist tradition, it was located halfway down a hill near Rājagriha in Magadha. Some accounts identify the Cave of the Seven Leaves as Pippalī Cave. See also Pippalī Cave.
