Protection of the Sovereign of the Nation Sutra [守護国界経] (Chin Shou-hu-kuo-chieh-ching; Shugo-kokkai-kyō): Also known as the Protection Sutra. A sutra that expounds a dhāranī, or a spell or mystic formula, for protecting the sovereign, and describes the benefit this dhāranī confers. The full title is the Dhāranī for the Protection of the Sovereign of the Nation Sutra. It was translated into Chinese by Prajnā and Munishrī in the eighth century, and introduced to Japan in the early ninth century by Kōbō, the founder of the Japanese True Word (Shingon) school, which treasured this sutra.
