Platform Sutra of the Sixth Patriarch, The [六祖壇経] (Chin Liu-tsu-t’an-ching; Rokuso-dan-kyō): Also known as The Platform Sutra. A collection of the sermons of Hui-neng (638–713), the sixth patriarch of the Chinese Zen (Ch’an) school. It was called a “sutra” by Hui-neng’s disciples who recorded and compiled his sermons. In this work, Hui-neng expounds the Zen doctrine of the immediate attainment of enlightenment and the doctrine of perceiving one’s true nature and attaining Buddhahood.
