Dharma King [法王] ( dharma-rāja; hō’ō): Also, king of the Law. A Buddha. In Buddhist scriptures, Shakyamuni Buddha is often called the Dharma King, and he also calls himself the Dharma King. For example, in the “Simile and Parable” (third) chapter of the Lotus Sutra, Shakyamuni says, “I am the Dharma King, free to do as I will with the Law. To bring peace and safety to living beings—that is the reason I appear in the world.”
