Dharma teacher [法師] ( hosshi): Also, Dharma master, teacher of the Law, or preacher of the Dharma. A Buddhist practitioner who is well versed in Buddhist teachings and who preaches them to and serves as a role model for other people by purifying himself through Buddhist practice. “Dharma Teacher” was an honorific title referring to such a priest. The “Teacher of the Law” (tenth) chapter of the Lotus Sutra defines one who carries out the five practices of the Lotus Sutra—to embrace, read, recite, expound, and copy it—as a teacher of the Law.
