Kumārajīva’s translation of the Lotus Sutra refers to them by their Sanskrit names: Nanda, Upananda, Sāgara, Vāsuki, Takshaka, Anavatapta, Manasvin, and Utpalaka. According to the “Introduction” (first) chapter of the Lotus Sutra, each attends the gathering accompanied by several hundreds of thousands of followers.
