Echi ［依智］: A fief held by Homma Rokurō Saemon, the deputy constable of Sado Island in Japan. It was located in what is now Atsugi City in Kanagawa Prefecture. After the Tatsunokuchi Persecution, which occurred on the twelfth day of the ninth month, 1271, Nichiren was held in custody at Homma’s residence at Echi before being taken to exile on Sado on the tenth day of the tenth month.
