Eloquence [弁才天・弁天] ( Sarasvatī; Benzai-ten or Benten): A goddess said to possess the virtues of music, wealth, wisdom, and eloquence in preaching. Originally a river goddess in ancient India, she was later incorporated into Buddhism. Some of her images and statues depict her with eight arms and carrying a bow and arrow, sword, ax, and other weapons, while others have only two arms and hold the biwa, a Japanese lute. She is regarded as one of the seven beneficent deities.
