Forest of Gems in the Garden of the Law, The [法苑珠林] (Chin Fa-yüan-chu-lin; Hō’on-jurin): A one-hundred-volume Buddhist encyclopedia compiled in 668 by the Chinese priest Tao-shih. This work organizes terms and concepts appearing in various Buddhist texts into one hundred general categories, each with more detailed subheadings, and explains them. This work contains passages from the Buddhist scriptures that have been lost, as well as passages from non-Buddhist writings.
