Forest of Meanings in the Mahayana Garden of the Law, The [大乗法苑義林章] (Chin Ta-ch’eng-fa-yüan-i-lin-chang; Daijō-hō’on-girin-jō): Abbreviated as The Forest of Meanings in the Garden of the Law. A seven-volume work by Tz’u-en (632–682), the founder of the Dharma Characteristics (Fa-hsiang) school in China, explaining the major doctrines of the school. It compares non-Buddhist, Hinayana, and Mahayana teachings, and asserts the supremacy of the Mahayana Consciousness-Only doctrine.
