three meditations for emancipation [三解脱門] ( san-gedatsu-mon): Also, three gates to emancipation. Three kinds of meditation to free oneself from the sufferings caused by illusions and attain enlightenment. They are (1) the meditation on non-substantiality, i.e., that all things are without substance or absolute self-nature; (2) the meditation on non-discrimination; because all things are without substance, there are no essential differences among them; and (3) the meditation on non-desire; because there are no essential differences among things, there is nothing that should be desired or aspired to.
