Tōfuku-ji [東福寺]: The head temple of the Tōfuku-ji branch of the Rinzai school of Zen, and one of the Five Temples of Kyoto in Japan. Kujō Michiie (1193–1252), the chief minister of the imperial court, made a vow in 1236 to build Tōfuku-ji and in 1243 asked Enni to become its first chief priest. In 1255, three years after Kujō’s death, Enni presided over the temple’s completion ceremony.
