Tao-sui [道邃] (n.d.) (PY Daosui; Dōsui or Dōzui): A priest of the T’ien-t’ai school in China. He became a disciple of Miao-lo, under whom he studied T’ien-t’ai’s teachings. In 796 he went to Mount T’ien-t’ai, where he studied for nine years, thereafter taking up residence at Lung-hsing-ssu temple. When Dengyō, who later founded the Japanese counterpart of the T’ien-t’ai school, came to China from Japan in 804, Tao-sui taught him the T’ien-t’ai meditation. His works include A Personal Commentary on “The Annotations on the Mahāparinirvāna Sutra” and A Personal Commentary on “The Annotations on the Vimalakīrti Sutra.”
