two storehouses [二蔵] ( nizō): Also, two storehouses of teachings. A classification of Shakyamuni’s lifetime teachings into two categories, set forth by Chi-tsang (549–623), a systematizer of the doctrines of the Three Treatises (San-lun) school in China. The two storehouses are (1) the teachings expounded for persons of the two vehicles (voice-hearers and cause-awakened ones) and (2) the teachings for bodhisattvas. The former corresponds to the Hinayana teachings, and the latter to the Mahayana teachings.
