three True Word sutras [真言三部経] ( Shingon-sambu-kyō): The Mahāvairochana, Diamond Crown, and Susiddhikara sutras. In Japan, these sutras form the doctrinal basis for the True Word (Shingon) school and for the esoteric teachings of the Tendai school (Tendai Esotericism). They were called the three True Word sutras, following the model of the Pure Land (Jōdo) school, which had designated three Pure Land sutras. While the True Word school places greater emphasis on the Mahāvairochana and Diamond Crown sutras, which represent the Womb Realm and the Diamond Realm respectively, Tendai Esotericism accords highest respect to the Susiddhikara Sutra, regarding it as a unification of both realms.
