Teacher of Heavenly and Human Beings [天人師] ( shāstā-deva-manushyānām; tennin-shi): One of the ten honorable titles of a Buddha. The “Parable of the Phantom City” (seventh) chapter of the Lotus Sutra says: “World-Honored One, very rarely met with, one whom it is difficult to encounter, endowed with immeasurable blessings, capable of saving everyone, great teacher of heavenly and human beings, you bestow pity and comfort on the world. Living beings in the ten directions all receive benefit everywhere.”
