Tsukimaro [月満] (b. 1271): A daughter of Shijō Kingo and his wife, Nichigen-nyo, both of whom were Nichiren’s followers. They had two children, a younger daughter named Kyo’ō (literally, Sutra King) born in 1272, and Tsukimaro (Full Moon), who was born on the eighth day of the fifth month, 1271. Nichiren wrote a letter in the fifth month of 1271 in reply to a report from Kingo concerning the birth of the couple’s first child and their request that Nichiren name the baby. In it, Nichiren states: “Great Bodhisattva Hachiman, the sovereign deity of this country, was born on the eighth day of the fourth month. Shakyamuni Buddha, the lord of teachings in this sahā world, was also born on the eighth day of the fourth month. Though the month is different, your baby girl was also born on the eighth day. She could well be the reincarnation of Shakyamuni Buddha or Hachiman” (188).
