Tao-hsien [道暹] (n.d.) (PY Daoxian; Dōsen): A priest of the T’ien-t’ai school in China. He is said to have been a disciple of Miao-lo. Sometime in the Ta-li era (766–779), he went to the capital Ch’ang-an, where he devoted himself to writing The Supplement to “The Words and Phrases of the Lotus Sutra,” a commentary on both T’ien-t’ai’s Words and Phrases of the Lotus Sutra and Miao-lo’s Annotations on “The Words and Phrases of the Lotus Sutra.”
