Shīlabhadra ［戒賢］ (529–645) (;  Kaigen): An Indian scholar of the Consciousness-Only ( Vijnānavāda) school. Born to the royal family of the kingdom of Samatata in eastern India, he studied the Consciousness-Only doctrine under Dharmapāla at Nālandā Monastery and was widely known as an outstanding scholar. According to The Biography of the Tripitaka Master of Ta-tz’u-en-ssu Temple, when the Chinese priest Hsüan-tsang visited the monastery to study in the early seventh century, Shīlabhadra taught him the doctrines of the Consciousness-Only school. Hsüan-tsang then brought them back to China, thereby establishing the basis of the Dharma Characteristics (Chin Fa-hsiang;  Hossō) school.
