sun of wisdom ［慧日］ ( enichi): A metaphor for the Buddha’s wisdom. The wisdom of the Buddha is called the sun of wisdom because it brings light to all living beings, dispelling all darkness of delusion and suffering. “Sun of wisdom” is also a metaphor for the Buddha or his teaching. The Universal Worthy Sutra reads, “If one wishes to carry out repentance, sit upright and ponder the true aspect. Then the host of sins, like frost or dew, can be wiped out by the sun of wisdom.”
