Supplement to the Meanings of the Commentaries on the Lotus Sutra, The [法華経疏義纉] (Chin Fa-hua-ching-shu-i-tsuan; Hokekyō-shogisan): Also known as Tung-ch’un, after the place where the author lived. A commentary on the Lotus Sutra written in the eighth century by Chih-tu, a priest of the Chinese T’ien-t’ai school. In this work, Chih-tu presents a general discussion of the five major principles of name, essence, quality, function, and teaching on the basis of T’ien-t’ai’s Profound Meaning of the Lotus Sutra, and comments in detail on the Lotus Sutra, T’ien-t’ai’s Words and Phrases of the Lotus Sutra, and Miao-lo’s Annotations on “The Words and Phrases of the Lotus Sutra.”
