stream-winner [須陀洹・預流] ( srota-āpanna; Pali sota-āpanna; shudaon or yoru): The first of the four stages of Hinayana enlightenment. The fourth and highest stage is that of arhat. The stream-winner is the stage in which one enters the stream of the sages, i.e., in which one joins the ranks of sages advancing toward nirvana. At this stage, one has eradicated the illusions of thought in the threefold world. See also four stages of Hinayana enlightenment; illusions of thought and desire.
