Terms and Names in Japanese

Romanized Japanese terms and names are arranged in alphabetical order and followed by Chinese characters or Japanese syllabary in parentheses. Following next are the corresponding dictionary entries. For example, the Japanese name Aiku-ō is followed by the Chinese characters for the name, and then by Ashoka, which is the corresponding entry. But in cases where there are no corresponding entries, the equivalents of the Japanese terms or names are given and the entries under which you can find their definitions are shown in parentheses. For example, the Japanese term bosatsu-jō is followed by its English equivalent bodhisattva vehicle and (See three vehicles). In this case, you would look for the entry three vehicles where you would find bodhisattva vehicle in the body of the definition.
